In Timor-Leste, men are often the main perpetrators of violence, with limited knowledge to break this cycle and support women’s and children’s well-being. To address this, USAID’s Breaking Barrier Activity launched its “Male Engagement” initiative in Vatuboro Village, Liquica, on July 16, 2024.

The Male engagement activity will run 9 session activities ranging from understanding gender and sex roles, how to be a good father, identifying and ending cycle of violence, solving conflict, support family and especially women and children’s access to health service, and sharing responsibilities to create a balance of work within family.

HAMNASA through our executive director Mr. Paulo Vasconcelos, said that “HAMNASA is very pleased with the initiation of this “Men’s Involvement” activity and believes that all the benefits of this activity will contribute greatly to strengthening men’s knowledge to change behavior related to norms gender and negative social norms, and contribute to stopping GBV in the family and community”.
