Throughout February and March, the USAID Activity Breaking Barriers, Building Better Livelihoods: Integrated GBV Response in Timor-Leste, hosted municipal-level advocacy meetings in three key municipalities: Ermera, Liquica, and Covalima. The goal? To introduce the Breaking Barriers activity to local stakeholders, setting the stage for impactful initiatives in villages, sub-villages, and health facilities. These meetings fostered joint discussions to gather insights that will strengthen the implementation of future activities.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to USAID and HAMNASA for collaborating to implement crucial programs in our municipality. Together, we’re working towards ending GBV and ensuring the safety and freedom of women in our community,” expressed Teresia Pires, representative of the President of the Municipality of Covalima.

HAMNASA will lead the implementation of the Breaking Barriers activity through two key approaches: community-based and clinical interventions. In communities, activities will include community microplanning, engaging men, and empowering women economically. Meanwhile, on the clinical front, we’ll enhance the health service system by providing comprehensive training on gender-based violence (GBV) to healthcare workers.  Stay tuned for updates as we work together to break barriers and build brighter futures!
